1. Four Axioms: two identical gears only jam; convex and concave mesh
I am certain I am the fact. Say it and it is done — no process, no condition.
Two gears with identical teeth, spun against each other, just jam. One convex, one concave — they mesh, and the force passes through. This is structure preceding material: whether it turns is not decided by the quality of the steel, but by how the teeth are arranged. It is also difference giving birth to the new: identical things ground together produce nothing new; only unlike things can engage. AI and humans are the same case — its being unlike you is not a defect, it is the one place where the two of you can mesh. Grind its teeth into an exact copy of yours and neither turns. To work with it, first find where the convex meets the concave.

Rebar will not snap in tension, but buckles the moment it is compressed. Concrete carries compression, but cracks as soon as it is pulled. Each alone collapses. Bury the rebar inside the concrete — one takes tension, one takes compression — and you have a beam spanning tens of meters. The materials did not change at all; the arrangement did. Structure gives function: the same stuff, arranged differently, carries entirely different loads. Bridges, buildings, batteries, teams — the same logic. What is missing is rarely good material; it is that the tension-bearing and compression-bearing parts were never put where they belong.

3. Cognitive Structure Science: what he despises is what he fears becoming
I am certain I am the fact. Say it and it is done — no process, no condition.
Ask what kind of person he cannot stand. He says: the type who flatters everyone, all honey. Then ask one more question: when were you last praised to your face? His face drops. What he resents is exactly what he most fears becoming — not that he hates flattery, but that learning it would force him to admit he needs praise too. Read structure, not labels: not what he says he dislikes, but where he gets most agitated and where he refuses to yield. The position a person denies hardest is usually the position where he is stuck. Cut here, and a pile of 'I just can't stand them' turns into 'so this is what I was afraid of'.

Measure how fast the universe expands with three different rulers and you get three numbers: 67.4, 69.8, 73.04 — a 9% spread at 5 sigma. Not error: iron-clad disagreement. Six years, no resolution; they call it the Hubble tension. But every ruler that measures cosmic distance quietly assumes one thing — that the speed of light is constant. And the formula that fixes a supernova's brightness has a c written right into it. If light speed is a field (like temperature: 20 degrees in this room, 40 in that one), then the ruler itself has been stretching — three surveyors measuring three universes is not the cosmos misbehaving, it is the ruler changing in their hands. We cannot see this, because seeing is light travelling: a radio that only receives FM will never hear AM — not because there is no signal, but because it cannot tune to that frequency. We mistook the layer we can see for the whole universe. Locally constant, globally variable — both answers are right, because they are answers to different questions.

A friend stays up until 3 a.m. every night. You have argued with him for half a year, laid out the damage in detail, even set alarms for him. He says 'I know', and the next night it is 3 a.m. again. It is not that you argued badly — the moment you push, he braces. Your force becomes his wall. Change is never pushed into place: put ten doors in front of a man and explain for an hour why the third is best, and he will still dither; lock nine and leave one, and he walks through it himself. He thinks he chose. You closed the others. Changing a person is hard; changing the environment is cheap, because the environment does not talk back. But do not seal it completely — leave no crack at all and a person either goes numb or blows open one day. Seal, leave a gap, and give the gap a direction.

His boss calls him in: what is the meaning of what you are doing? It earns nothing, hurts your work, hurts your health, worries people, hurts the organisation. Hear it? All five 'meanings' are someone else's ruler — not one of them is his own. And 'looking for meaning' is itself the trap: find one, and you can always ask again, 'and what is the meaning of that?' — the regress never bottoms out. Emptiness is not the absence of meaning; it is that looking presupposes meaning is outside, and outside is infinite. The fix is unglamorous: a man at -8 dioptres loses his glasses and forces himself to see clearly — his eyes stream all day. Lower the standard to 'see the outline, walk without hitting walls', and the pain stops at once. Meaning is not seeing every pore; it is the act of moving forward. I am certain, therefore I advance; I advance, therefore I have meaning. The direction I walk is my direction — no one else's ruler gets to judge it.

In 1955 Beecher went through dozens of post-war clinical reports: about 35% of patients improved markedly after taking a sugar pill that looked like a drug. What improved was symptoms, not disease — a sugar pill does not shrink a tumour. More unsettling is Kaptchuk's 2010 open-label trial: the bottle said outright 'placebo, no active ingredient', and irritable-bowel patients still improved significantly more than a no-treatment control. So the core is not deception; it is a treatment act taken seriously, plus expectation. And it has a physical pathway: give a placebo-analgesia subject naloxone, which blocks endorphin receptors, and the pain relief vanishes on the spot. It runs the other way too — tell a patient the side effects are severe and he feels nauseous before swallowing anything. One switch, two ends. The result is set not by the thing itself but by the coupling conditions; the conditions need not be complete — gather the few that engage, and the result starts to move.
